Can I cut on the surface of my wood or butcher block counter?
Yes, you can cut on the surface if you have our mineral oil finish, and if you oil it regularly. If you have our polyuerethane finish we recommend using a cutting board. Yes we make cutting boards.
Can I have an undermount sink?
Yes, our countertops are sealed to protect them against water damage. We offer both under-mount and over-mount cutouts. Infact we offer all sorts of cutouts.
How often will I need to re-oil my oil finish butcher block countertop or butcher block surface?
For natural oil finish butcher blocks, we recommend that you re-oil all surfaces of your block every week or so. Wood is a live material and extremes of humidity and dryness can swell and shrink your butcher blocks enough to cause seasonal checks to appear. You can help preserve your butcher block by keeping your home humidified in winter and by refreshing your butcher block every 4 weeks with a generous coating of natural butcher block oil on all surfaces.
How do I clean my butcher block countertop that has a polyurethane finish?
We recommend and wood cleaner that is non toxic. Soap and water will work just fine however we find that lemon oil works best, well worth the investment.
Do you make custom sizes?
Yes, that is exactly what we are known for and sets us apart from others. . There is no extra fee for custom sizes.
Will they warp?
We’ve done vigorous research on this and have developed a way to manufacture butcher blocks with the proper grain orientation so the product holds itself stable. We also seal our tops to insure a warp free countertop. All our tops come either oiled or with a sealer, unless you plan to finish the surface yourself. When possible mount the butcher block to a base, minimal fasteners are required.
How strong is the glue joins?
Our glue we use is designed specifically for butcher block and cutting board applications. We use type 3 wood glue that is both water resistant and food safe. Vs. type 2 glue that is just water resistant. With 4000 pounds per square inch of holding power and 90% wood failure over glue failure our laminating line is up to the task.
